All women are at risk of developing breast cancer and since the risk increases as a woman gets older, the need for breast cancer screening at an early stage is necessary.
THE PINK CHARITY FUND has spent a good part of 2006 trying to reach out to women from various socio-economic backgrounds educating and informing them of the disease.
AWARENESS, or the lack of it is of grave concern to us and eventhough we many not have reliable figures or statistical data on breast cancer suffers here in Sierra Leone, the fact remains that our women are dying in increasing numbers of the disease.
HOW MANY OF US can honestly say that we really know our breasts?
HOW MANY OF US can say we know when our breasts are healthy and when they are not?
It is hardly surprising then that so many of us are dying unecessarily of BREAST CANCER. We simply do not know what to FEEL for, and how to CHECK ourselves until it is too late.
THE PINK CHARITY FUND is an non-profit making organisation which in collaboration with THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH has set out to embark on a Nationwide Awareness Campaign on Breast Cancer. Our objective in the first phase is to secure a Mammogram for The Connaught Government Hospital, so that every woman between the ages of 40-60 can access FREE screening.
Ultimately, the vision is to be able to provide the complete Detection, Cure and Further Treatment facilities for breast cancer at the Connaught. In addition to these highly specialised equipments, training and related accessories would be needed.
The Pink Fund is therefore seeking to partner with an International Health Trust, or any other organisation willing to provide the training needed.
